Written in Sand is an original project fronted by songwriter, Julian Bach. Taking cues from the likes of Deer Tick, Wilco, Neil Young and Nirvana, the band steps out of the dark woods on the edge of town to play earnest and riff-laden Americana. Crunchy rhythms and wistful harmonies build the soundtrack for late-night drives on lonely roads with the windows down.

With amps dimed and voices on the edge, a soul of the county years-past is summoned forth, naked and real. The kids who can tell you that the eighties and nineties brought more than bright colors and rally smoke, but also the darkness and fire that birthed them. Written in Sand is a solid, hooky, rock-Americana outfit that anyone can enjoy with a mood that will linger like woodsmoke.

Bassist, Taylor Holtzheimer met Julian through an online ad and when he heard the music sent to him, he was never more excited to be a part of a project. Having been a rhythm guitarist and singer for over twenty years, he had just recently turned his attention to the bass and found the perfect place for his experience and blues-based style, while also having a fresh take in his role as bassist.

Long-time drummer, James Spain, whittles his piece of the puzzle to its essentials like an indie-punk sage rocking on an old front porch. From heartbeats to waltzes, the technicolor realm of heartache and heat is grounded by the roots of real place and time. All the while, both he and Taylor add their voices to Julian's for a sound familiar and woeful, like Bill Monroe & The Bluegrass Boys with leather jackets and switchblades.

From songs such as the lustful 'Oh, Honey,' as someone close telling you exactly what they want and how they want it, to the playful 'Song For You,' teasing around melancholic devotion; the band builds a world full of broken bottles and cold beaches, winners, losers, lovers, and survivors. The tale is faceted into meaningful, relatable moments. You will recognize the feelings conjured like smells from a century-old kitchen, or perhaps the dark musty shed out back.
